Tell us who you are?

Samuel Onions – Insurance and Apprenticeship trainer. Food obsessed, friendly face and my mum (Jackie) makes the best brownies.

Where did the name for the company come from?

Wiser Academy comes from the name of an Insurance broking firm called BeWiser. There was a conscious uncoupling from the parent firm as the L+D department knew the potential of their offering to the wider insurance sector! We headed out on our journey in 2014.

What services or products do you offer?

A range of apprenticeships that are applicable to the insurance industry: L3, L4 and L6 (Cert, DIP and ACII qualification included). We have an insurance degree program and an “Excellent” rating from OFSTED. We have launched an Account Executive Program to focus on supporting Sales Skills and Business tasks

How many team members are currently employed – who are they and what do they do?

What made you want to start your own business / or work for your company?

A fresh challenge with an opportunity to use my experiences. I only planned to be good at my job. However, I’ve been given so many new experiences, exposures and developments in my 12 months that I can say that the Academy do just as much for its staff as the apprentices it supports.

Why was Trent House chosen as a location / how long have you been here?

I came because office because it was close to me – I stayed because of the wonderful people and staff that work here (12 months)

Are you based in any other location?

We have another office (head office) in Andover, Hampshire

Are you planning anything exciting in the near future… personal or business?

We are always looking to expand our offering and bring new ideas to the market. We have plans to work in areas outside of the insurance sector too! Watch this space.

What’s the best piece of professional advice you’ve ever received?

Listen carefully and Keep it simple

You’re on a team night out, where do you go?

Normally a nice restaurant is involved – like a steakhouse. We do seem to be regulars at the theatre as well!
